Maurice Hallen founded the company in 1927, growing it until he sold it to his valued employee Arthur Poole in the 1940s. Arthur then passed the reigns to his son Thomas Poole in the mid-70s and Thomas in turn passed it along to his son Shepard “Shep” Poole in the early 2000s. In 2019, Hallen was acquired by Quanta Services, with Shep Poole continuing to run the operation as President and CEO.
